DOUBLE FOR FOSTERMIEN Trainer and Jockey in Limelight at Rockingham Park Pass Repeats in Best Event on Claiming ClaimingRace Race Card Lerack Also Earns EarnsPurse Purse in the Fourth SALEM N H July 27 Platers again held the spotlight at Rockingham Park The entire seven offerings on the semifinal days program were under claiming conditions For the first time since the meeting was inaugurated a slow track prevailed The heavy rains of the early morning ceased however before the opening race was called to the post However there were several showers throughout the afternoon afternoonDespite Despite changed track conditions and un ¬ settled weather it had little effect on the attendance a crowd quite up to the usual week day standard being on hand The sport was decidedly formful with favorites and well backed second choices capturing the majority of the offerings offeringsHolding Holding fifth position on the card was a threequarter mile dash for sprinters with a claiming price of 1250 down to 1000 The winner turned up in Pass which chalked up his second consecutive victory for O L Foster since being claimed from F A Car reaud Incidentally it enabled jockey C E Allen and trainer O L Foster to round out a double for the afternoon both having shared in the victory of Lerack in the previous race Chasing Pass was Jaz Age and Blue Foam carried the green and white of J D Mikel into third place placeFrom From the start it was Jaz Age that showed the way Pass had left the stalls in second place but lacked the speed to hold his posi ¬ tion and dropped back in the first furlong However it was not long before Allen had him in his best stride and started to move up on the outside Until swinging around the far turn it was Vacillate that was pressing the pacemaker closest and Pass was in third place Blue Foam the favorite after leaving in a forward position droppefl back badly At the end of the first quarter mile Blue Foam was in front of only Ma thias which had trailed from the start Jaz Age still had a good lead over his closest follower until near the stretch when Pass still on the outside began to cut down the lead that separated him from the leader leaderThe The winner succeeded in taking the lead an eighth of a mile out and for the re ¬ mainder of the way drew out until he was a length and a half to the good at the end Jaz Age continued gamely to the end and while lacking the finishing speed of the winner was far in front of Blue Foam which came with a belated burst of speed that enabled her to wear down Vacillate in the final few strides to take the show part of the purse purseReigh Reigh Rose with a mere 94 pounds up defeated the dozen older maidens that vied for honors in the initial offering of the aft ernoon a dash of five and onehalf furlongs The Reigh Count filly had a length to spare over Happy Surprise and the early pace ¬ maker Lady Buck lasted to earn third from Sun Cloister CloisterColor Color Bearer racing for Riley Meeker administered defeat to eight other juvenile platers that contested the second a dash at five furlongs Wax steadygoing son of Vic ¬ torian earned second for D Melanson and Mad Bull racing for R P Watts lasted to hold third from the unfortunate Last Servant The latter was away in the first flight after leaving from the inside post po ¬ sition but suffered sharp interference after going a sixteenth of a mile He was knocked to last place before the first furlong had been completed completedThe The third race at five and a half furlongs framed for the mediocre platers that had not won since May 23 proved nothing more than a jog for A Bartelsteins Hobnail The John P Grier colt scored by a dozen lengths from Texas Tommy racing for Frank Kearns and Mrs T J Donohues Star Queen was third five lengths away Shaun Padraic was fourth and the only other starter Acquire was many lengths back in last place placeAnother Another favorite made good when Lerack ridden by the veteran C E Allen had little trouble in leading home the platers that opposed him in the fourth another five and a half furlongs affair Sent to the front immediately after the start Allen took Le ¬ rack under slight restraint when Gay Time attempted to go along with him himGay Gay Time was through after making the turn and Allen permitted the winner to take a good lead Loggia was last to leave the stalls and was well back until passing the three furlongs post when the Cudgel filly began to move up Lerack was in hand in the stretch anw hen Loggia challenged ap proaching the furlong post was placed un ¬ der a hand ride and easily drew away to be a length to the good at the line Loggia while unable to overtake the winner held second place from Yap The latter saved ground in the stretch but was unable to reach the leaders under hard riding Gay ridingGay Time after her brief display of speed faltered badly and was last to cross the fin ¬ ishing mark Done For which came in for some volume of support never entered con ¬ tention and was nodding badly as he came back to the stand to be unsaddled unsaddledThe The best field of the afternoon was en ¬ gaged in the Haverhill Claiming Purse to est their speed over the mile and a six ¬ teenth distance It resulted in an upset when Pretty Wise racing for R B Archer after gaining the lead in the run to the first turn was able to set the pace from then on to reach the finish well clear of the well backed favorite Adobe Post while Sambo Brown came with a rush on the outside to take third thirdAdobe Adobe Post was in difficulties early in the race and though he moved up in threat ¬ ening fashion oh the outside after leaving the back stretch he was never able to threaten the leader An excuse could be offered for Pennywise when after racing prominently from the beginning he was caught in close quarters in the stretch and practically eliminated from sharing in the purse distiibution though he was beaten at the time and had no chance of defeating the first two
