LATONIA, Ky., June 21.— Ten of the best distance performers in this region will seek victory in the ,500 Enquirer Handicap, which will test the starters over the one mile and one-sixteenth route. The Brentwood Stables Late Date, which will carry top weight, will meet practically the same field sh.3 conquered in the Inaugural Handicap, but on this occasion she will match strides with rivals which are more thoroughly sea- soned and ready to give forth stronger con- tention than on opening day. If Late Date is successful in her Saturday engagement her name will be inscribed as the second performer to annex this impor- tant and popular race twice, duplicating the achievement of Manta, which accounted for the stake in successive years in 1930 and 1931. Manta, incidentally, earned the larg-i est winners share since the race was in-; augurated, netting Brownell Combs 0,000 in 1931. Prospects for Saturday were inclement weather, pointing to the race being decided over a muddy or heavy track. In support of the Enquirer Handicap, which, during its eighteen runnings has re-l suited in victories for such notable perform-r ers as Boniface, Courtship, Distinction, Cherry Tree, Single Foot, Rolled Stocking, Pigeon Hole, Manta, Late Date and New Deal, rac- secretary William H. Shelley has ar-j [ing date. ranged the best program of the meeting to The lineup of the Enquirer, with post positions, weights and probable jockeys follows: PP. Horse. Wt. Jockey. 1 — Fiji .108 F.
