Joe oe Sylvester, leading rider of the meeting, rode de the seven-year-old, which beat Jim McCon-y ,n- nell, Northern Slip and four others over the , , short five-furlong course. Birthday Gift won by three lengths in in | | easy fashion, much the same manner in in which other winners earned purses. Sylves-ie ;s- ! ter also rode the winner of the first race, :e, Sun Lily, which took the lead entering the he stretch and won in hand. The fifth event produced a thrilling stretch duel between Catchall and Gallop-• J ette, with the former getting the verdict by by a length.
