In sdaition to several hundred thoroughbreds, which came from Detroit, other performers have arrived from Chicago, Kentucky and other points. Quartered here are forty or more handicap performers while the two-year-old brigade is well fortified and there are a great number of routers on hand to fill engagements in the long distance races, which always have been popular in Vai section. OFFICIAL FAMILY. The official family is headed by judge Joseph A. Murphy, one of the most widely known and popular officials in the country. Through his efforts the sport was revived in California, Illinois, Louisiana, Texas and Michigan. As director of racing, the same capacity in which he serves here, judge Murphy offeied the citizens of Cleveland the first successful meeting to be held at Thistle Down in years. The position of racing secretary is held by Charles F. Henry, who was an assistant to judge Martin Nathanson, who served as rac- , ing -secretary at the inaugural meeting at Coney Island. The starting will be entrusted to George R. Wingfield, a native of Covington, Ky., who dispatches the fields at Tropi- 1 cal Park,, Hawthorne, Detroit and Thistle i Down. Four stakes, each of which carries ,500 in added money, will be offered during the If twenty-one days, and in the event the meet-rr :3 extended additional features will be card for closing day.
