REPEATERS AT AURORA Baranca and Fair Mole Earn Their Second Straight Purses Peoria Claiming Purse Only a Romp for Etzler Gelding Favorites Justify Publics Backing AURORA 111 May 4 Mrs M B Etzlers fouryearold chestnut gelding Baranca made it two straight victories in as many starts when he won the Peoria claiming event a dash of six furlongs which featured this afternoons program at the Fox Valley Jockey Clubs course Fair Mole had ac ¬ complished the feat in the previous race raceIn In accounting for the headline race on the program which was an allclaiming offer ¬ ing the sturdy son of Moonraker and Kitty Troxell defeated Almac by the margin of two and a half lengths while Star Bess was four lengths farther back in third place placeThough Though previous winners on the days card won by greater margins none triumphed with as much ease as did the Detroit sports ¬ womans colorbearer In this instance the winning margin does not indicate the ridicu ¬ lous ease of the victory Jockey E J Barnes who was astride the winner took a tight hold of his charge and fairly coasted home homeBaranca Baranca displayed that he possessed the speed of the party which consisted of seven sprinters by beginning first and remaining on the head end for the entire journey Sarahmond furnished the pacemaker some opposition for the first quarter of the race From this point to the finish the result was never left in doubt doubtBLACK BLACK PETER STUMBLES STUMBLESBlack Black Peter which ruled the choice in the field was racing well up when he stumbled and almost went down and failing to re ¬ cover was well beaten at the finish How ¬ ever the form players experienced their most successful day of the season thus far when three straight choices stepped down for them themHeavy Heavy rains during the night served to retard the improvement of the racing strip which was slightly better yesterday over that of the opening day of the Illinois sea ¬ son consequently the thoroughbreds were obliged to plough their way through heavy footing footingThe The program consisting of five sprints and two distance contests was well received by the spectators who braved the elements to be on hand for the third day of racing at the Fox Valley Jockey Clubs course While the presentation was devoid of stirring fin ¬ ishes due to the prevailing footing fairly good fields of platers competed competedOLD OLD STATE BEST BESTMaking Making his initial start of the season N L Naylors Old State proved himself best of a field of seven threeyearolds that con ¬ tested in the opening race on the card which was at five and a half furlongs Kentucky Eagle finished second five lengths in the wake of the winner while the latter held a three lengths advantage over Florid FloridFavorite Favorite players connected in the second race and started the majority of the double combinations off when Russell Jewetts Wee lukie led six others down to the finish mark Continued on thirtieth page REPEATERS AT AURORA Continued from first page in a six furlongs dash The Nile a previous winner here finished second and Dixie Fox landed in the third slot slotAnother Another favorite rewarded his large fol ¬ lowing in the third when former jockey Frankie Kurinecs The Jurist demonstrated that he was too much for the opposition and romped to a four lengths triumph in the six furlongs contest Fast Roamer was sec ¬ ond and Easy Flight finished in third place Though outpaced for the first quarter by Fast Roamer The Jurist took command soon after and never left his superiority in doubt He opened up a lead of four lengths as a half mile of the journey was completed and retained that margin without urging to the end The Jurist rewarded his backers with odds of 3 to 2 on their investments investmentsFORM FORM PLAYERS DO WELL WELLFor For the third consecutive time the form players had their opinion justified as Sir Boston racing in the colors of Frank Bar ¬ ton accounted for the fourth race Haba nero came from a long way back to take second place four lengths behind the victor Bay Memor was third Hustled to the turn for the purpose of securing a good position jockey L Guymon then took Sir Boston in hand and allowed Bay Memor to set the pace while Ancelot forced the running for threequarters Moving up with a rush on the turn into the stretch Sir Boston did not experience any difficulty passing Ancelot and set sail for the leader Catching Bay Memor in the stretch the ultimate winner rapidly drew away returning 540 for 2 straight wagers wagersBurley Burley Parkes Fair Mole gained the dis ¬ tinction of becoming the first double winner of the meeting by scoring a nose decision over Baldy in the fifth which was conducted over the mile and seventy yards route Bom ¬ bastic nosed out Mr Joe for the show por ¬ tion of the purse The success of the seven yearold brown gelding which scored a vic ¬ tory on opening day broke the march of triumphant choices when the powerful fin ¬ ish put up by jockey Leonard Turner proved to be the deciding factor The winner paid 1180 for each 2 win ticket
