PEOX SCORES AT PAWTUCKET Dressy Even Money Choice but Fin ¬ ishes in Third Place Favorite Loses Second Place in Final Stride Large Attendance and Heavy HeavyPlay Play In Mutuels PAWTUCKET R I May 4 The public played F L Flanders Phlox and Dixianas Dressy almost to the exclusion of the others in the Block Island Purse over six furlongs which featured todays sport at Narragansett Park Phlox won the race handily by two lengths The best Dressy an even money choice could do was land third losing sec ¬ ond place in the final stride to C S Madi ¬ sons fastcharging James N It was a nose decision for the place award Beauedwina was fourth in the field of seven sevenCarl Carl Bierman went to the fron with the winner immediately but he was only a head in front for Dressy began fast and Charles Stevenson had her right at the leaders throatlatch They drew away from the others in the run down the back stretch and it appeared the race would resolve itself into a twohorse battle between the choices On the turn Dressy began to tire and Phlox led by a length as they straightened for home Dressy was still in advance of the others and as Stevenson bore down with the whip she came on again appearing a cinch for second place She was tiring badly in the final sixteenth however and James N drove up under a rousing ride from Willie Leisch man to catch her right at the end endBeauedwina Beauedwina gained some ground in the stretch but never menaced the leaders Nothing else in the race was ever in the hunt The winner finished in 112 112Another Another beautiful day prevailed for the sport and a large and heavy betting week ¬ day crowd turned out
