INCREASE STAKE VALUES VALUESSteeplechase Steeplechase Events to Be Enhanced in Value For Belmont Park Fall Meeting NEW YORK N Y May 28 At a meet ¬ ing of the board of directors of the West chester Racing Association held at the city offices it was decided to recognize the pub ¬ lics support of the current meeting by in ¬ creasing stakes values for the autumn term The Grand National Steeplechase most im ¬ portant of all American field events will have its value increased from 6000 added to 10000 added the Brook Steeplechase Handicap will be raised from 3000 added to 5000 added and the Broad Hollow Steeple ¬ chase from 1500 to 2500 added addedThis This action is in part recognition of the efforts to improve steeplechasing that were made last autumn by the subscribers to the purchase of the French importations re ¬ cently seen in action actionA A sum of 50000 was appropriated for painting the grandstand and repair of sta ¬ bles so that the plant might be brought back to the 100 per cent efficiency that has made it the envy of the turf universe It is prob ¬ able that a continuance of public support for the remainder of the season will be re ¬ flected in substantial increases in both stakes and purses for next season in line with the Belmont policy that racing is entitled to its own profits or better racing and less dividends
