Here and There on the Turf War Admiral May Run at Dela ¬ ware Park ParkInvasion Invasion of West Held Un ¬ likely likelyMany Many Important Races Close Tuesday TuesdayLatonia Latonia Derby Will Be Attrae War Admiral can be a very busy and well traveled horse for a month if his connec ¬ tions so desire as he has been nominated for the Latonia Derby American Derby and Kent Handicap which follow the Belmont Stakes on successive Saturdays The Bel ¬ mont which is to be run a week from to ¬ day immediately concerns the small but mighty son of Man o War and Brushup and his ensuing program probably will not be determined until after he has had his chance to annex Americas triple crown Without any definite knowledge one way or the other the writer doubts if War Admiral will accept either of the engagements in the midwest although there is 20000 for him at Latonia and 30000 to be had at Wash ¬ ington Park That his next start after the Belmont Stakes may be the Kent Handicap is a strong probability probabilityThe The Kent is an event with which you prob ¬ ably are not familiar because it never has been run before It is a handicap of a mile and onesixteenth with 10000 in added money and is to grace the inaugural pro ¬ gram of Delaware Park on June 26 Reasons why War Admiral may be regarded as a starter in the Kent are obvious Mr and Mrs Samuel D Riddle owners of the colt are stockholders inthe new course and their borne at Glen Riddle Is only twenty minutes v Continued on sixteenth page ii It surer ijrilaG 1 noiaiv b leiui HERE AND THERE ON THE TURF Continued from second page away by motor from Delaware Park Be ¬ cause of illness they have had very little chance to see their champion in action this season Riddle only witnessing the Preak ness nessThat That they may decide to forego a west ¬ ern invasion to have War Admiral rested up for an appearance at what may be termed their home tracks seems more than a mere possibility War Admirals appear ¬ ance at Delaware Park in the Kent cer ¬ tainly will aid greatly in getting the new track off to a brilliant start Nominations to the Kent Handicap and the five other stakes to be run at Dela ¬ ware Park close on June 1 which is Tues ¬ day This is a very important date for horsemen having stake performers because I j entries also will be closed for the Massa ¬ chusetts and Yankee Handicaps at Suffolk Downs and for the roster of important events on Arlington Parks program Two other 10000 races the Sussex and New Castle Handicaps also are on the program of the new course near Wilmington while the other offerings are the 7500 Brandy wine Handicap and Diamond State Stakes and the 5000 Christiana and Polly Drum mond Stakes The Sussex and Brandywine are open to older horses the New Castle for fillies and mares the Diamond State for threeyearolds the Christiana for twoyear old colts and geldings and the Polly Drum mond for juvenile fillies filliesA A half dozen Arlington stakes are due for closing entries and final payments already having been made for the Arlington Fu ¬ turity and Lassie Stakes which will have probable gross values of 55000 and 35000 respectively The Classic which is to be run July 24 will be endowed with 30000 and the Arlington Handicap with 20000 As usual the Stars and Stripes Handicap will carry 10000 in added money while the re ¬ vival of the Arlington Matron Handicap after an absence of several years will find a purse of 5000 awaiting fillies and mares The Inaugural Handicap also will be worth this sum and the Hyde Park for juveniles 2500 Values of the Massachusetts and Yankee Handicaps which grace the summer meeting program at Suffolk Downs are 50 000 and 10000 added respectively That nominations to the stakes of these three tracks will be identical in numerous in ¬ stances is a strong likelihood likelihoodThat That the renewal of the Latonia Derby which is scheduled for two weeks from to ¬ day may have an eastern angle is likely what with Pompoon Flying Scot and Mo sawtre being eligible as well as War Ad ¬ miral These three colts are being prepared for the Belmont and if they come out of that event in creditable condition one or more of them may be sent to the Millsdale course for that mile and onequarter event No special preparation would be required of them as they will be fresh from their Belmont Stakes conditioning Meanwhile the more prominent westernowned eligibles to the Latonia Derby are being pointed for the race among them Reaping Reward which finished third in the Kentucky Derby and Over the Top formerly a stablemate of War Admiral Grey Count winner of the Louisi ¬ ana Derby and second in the Illinois Derby is an eligible as is No Sir which has had a chance to overcome the slight injury suffered just prior to the Kentucky Derby The principal feature of the Latonia meet ¬ ing opening today should not lack an at ¬ tractive field
