Farms Privileged one of the biggest money winning juveniles of last year made his belated threeyearold debut in a Grade A Handicap over six furlongs which featured Wednesdays program at Washington Park and it was a disappointing debut The son of Sir Gallahad III was made a pronounced favorite in spite of the fact that under his 112 pounds he conceded weight to all his older rivals but was not equal to the assign ¬ ment for he followed his six opponents past the line of finish finishVictory Victory went to the Millsdale Stables Infantry which ran the threequarters in 110 equalling the track record to score a fourlength victory Hastinola raced to sec ¬ ond place while Corinto was third and Black River next War Glory and Trans mutable were the only other starters startersIn In equalling the track maiSc Infantry which was ridden by Charles Corbett joined Silversmith as joint holder of the record The Millsdale fouryearold which carried 113 pounds was the second horse of the afternoon to tie a Washington Park mark Drift Along having duplicated the figure of 59 for five furlongs furlongsPOSITIVELY POSITIVELY NO EXCUSES EXCUSESPrivileged Privileged running in light fore bandages had nothing on which to pin his poor per ¬ formance He began a little slowly but quick ¬ ly recovered and after passing War Glory and Corinto while racing wide out of the back stretch again dropped back to do all of his racing in the final quarter at the end of the field Following the race he worked out an additional furlong being timed for the seveneighths in 126 Corinto also continued on after the race raceInfantry Infantry after improving his position on the turn took the lead with a rush ap ¬ proaching the furlong post and then stead ily drew away Hastinola was always among the leaders while Corinto came from a long way back to earn his portion of the 1200 purse Black River was the pace ¬ maker for half a mile while the only other horse to figure in the real running of the race was Transmutable which was through after forcing the pace for half the distance distanceSPECULATION SPECULATION GOOD GOODAlthough Although the crowd was small speculation was of the best volume for a weekday since thfi meeting began The weather was cloudy much of the fore part of the afternoon and a light drizzle fell during the first two races but it cleared off thereafter and was pleasant for the favorite Flying Breeze while Linas Son was third Day Dawn raced wide throughout and dropped well back on the turn but once straightened out for the run through the stretch moved up fast to get the decision by a length Flying Breeze finishing next to the rail got the place by a neck while Linas Son was a head in front of Me O My which had shown the way through the early furlongs furlongsSIX SIX FURLONGS IN 111 111The The fastest six furlongs of the meeting thus far was run in the fourth race a Grade C Handicap which went to B C Car ¬ penters Candescent in 111 The fourth straight horse of the feminine sex to score today Candescent charged down on the but side under apprentice Sammy Roberts to win by a half length as Spanish Babe ac was third More News and Determined were first and second respectively in the early furlongs but the latter gave way badly after a half mile and More News tired in the final eighth Our Carolyne the favorite was elim ¬ inated when she broke poorly poorlyCandescents Candescents time was shaded in the next event a Grade B Handicap over three quarters in which Calumet Farms Talked About scored his second straight win of the meeting and Anderson rode his second of the afternoon Shouldering 114 pounds the strongly backed Talked About raced the distance in 110 twofifths of a second off the track record to achieve victory by a length the same margin by which Silverette beat Sparta for the place Foyot was fourth Talked About raced wide while gradually improving his position and in the final threesixteenths closed well to chalk up his popular win Silverette took the lead approaching the furlong pole where Foyot gave up and then after enjoying a brief advantage gave way in turn to the Calumet threeyearold threeyearoldThe The seventh race a run of a mile and an eighth saw W Webers Hardware rid ¬ den by Alfred Robertson turn back six others from the claiming division Hard ¬ ware disposed of Exponent and the pace ¬ maker Manhattan after straightening out in the stretch and then outfinished the favorite Vanita to win by a neck Vanita beat Wegoway two and a half lengths for the place while Manhattan finished fourth
