Invincible in the western handicap division this spring Warren Wrights Count Morse burdened with top weight of 126 pounds scored his fourth straight stakes triumph by captur ¬ ing the Great Western last Mon ¬ day of the Blue and Gray Handicap at the end of the ten furlongs and beaten only a length was an outsider Butsey Hernan ¬ dez Woodlander with an even longer shot the Blue Ridge Farms gate for the start because of his refusal to line up in the stalls moved up fast on the turn went to the front approaching the home stretch and stayed there Crossbow H raced James City into defeat after three eighths but his lead was short lived the Woolford Farm fouryearold racing around him a short time afterwards Bootmaker dropped back on the far turn but came on again and was third two lengths in front of Miss Saxon Stopping badly after his early display of speed James City finally was pulled up by his rider Combahee the only other starter was out of the real contest throughout throughoutMrs Mrs W L Hoags Exponent found the soft footing to his fancy and captured the opening race in which eight met over a mile and seventy yards The sixyearold gelding got the decision by a neck as Dandy Jay finished second and Red Rogue third Alfred Robertson who rode Dandy Jay lodged a frivolous claim of foul asserting that the winner bore over on his mount but it was not allowed
