Here and There on the Turf Many Changes Made at Aque ¬ duct Judges Stand is Eliminated EliminatedStakes Stakes Aggregate 59000 in Value ValueNow Now Then Sold for 12000 In keeping with the prosperity it has enjoyed the past few years the Queens County Jockey Club has made further im provements in its Aqueduct plant Last year the grandstand was extended and the clubhouse porch was enlarged to permit more room for the commissioners and their patrons For the opening of its summer meeting Aqueduct has made the porch even larger which was a necessity As at the other New York tracks the judges stand opposite the finish line has been eliminated and hereafter the officials will work from special quarters on the roof where the fin ¬ ish camera also will be located Where the judges stand formerly was located a new winners unsaddling enclosure has been erected similar to that at Belmont Hialeah and Arlington Parks The public will at once welcome the chance to have unob ¬ structed views of finishes Another impor ¬ tant Aqueduct improvement is the elimina ¬ tion of the elbow from the five furlongs course for twoyearolds and starts of these races will be easier to see from the grand ¬ stand standAqueduct Aqueduct is offering an ambitious stakes program headed by the timehonored Brook ¬ lyn Handicap which will have 20000 in added money this year for the first time The Dwyer Stakes which will be endowed with 10000 is the second most important event on a program also including the Carter Handicap Queens County Handicap Shevlin Gazelle Great American Tremont and Astoria Stakes A total of 59000 is being given away in the nine events featur ¬ ing the twentyoneday meeting and a purse minimum of 1000 will be maintained De ¬ spite the competition for horses offered by other tracks Aqueduct should not lack for horses dnd the fine sport that marked the Jamaica and Belmont meetings should be continued at the Queens County course Aqueduct the nearest to New York and Brooklyn of any of the metropolitan tracks always has been popular with the public and with its modernization in many respects it may be expected to cater to larger crowds than ever before beforet t SEEN AND HEARD
