RAGGED START IN HEADLINER Money Muddle Triumphs After Con ¬ siderable Confusion at Gate Rain Slows Track TrackAGAWAM AGAWAM Mass June 7 Money Muddle useful fouryearold gelding in the stable of T Murphy making his second start of the meeting and his sixth of the season was winner of the best offering as the second full week of racing began at Agawam Park today His score came in the Chicopee Purse a test of one mile and seventy yards under claiming conditions It was run as the sixth event but was marred by a ragged start for the five under silks silksRacing Racing over a surface that was several seconds below normal after rain visited the course about an hour before post time for the first race the son of Mad Hatter and Margot achieved his victory which was his second of the year in one of the most ex ¬ citing finishes of the day and it took every ounce of apprentice H Kepplers skill to have the T Murphy colorbearer pass the line winner by a nose over Dona Dulcin DulcinThird Third went to Dutch Uncle in the livery of D P Veneziano who ruled in the specu ¬ lation while Maddest and Gold Spray com ¬ pleted the field to finish in the order named The start of the race was one of the worst effected by Ira Gregory at this meeting and it had a big bearing on the result of the contest that was robbed of much interest by the unfortunate start startLittle Little time was lost in getting the en ¬ trants into their positions in the stall device but the start occurred with Money Muddle in front of the gate when he lunged and the other riders obliged by pulling up their mounts thinking that it would be no go With the bell sounding the riders sent their mounts away from the starting point after a bit of confusion and it found Dona Dulcin taking the lead with Money Muddle hurry ¬ ing to lead the pursuit after Keppler took up when his mount lunged out of the stalls These two led from the beginning and in a thrilling finish after racing lapped through ¬ out the contest came to the finish with Money Muddle proving the gamest Dutch Uncle was beaten three lengths as he took third with the two others separated by a big margin
