BEL AIR INAUGURAL TODAY Newest of Maryland Tracks Stages StagesTenDay TenDay Session First of Minor MinorCourses Courses to Introduce Totalizator BEL AIR Md July 25 The newest and most modern of Marylands minor tracks swings into action as the tenday session of the Harford County Fair Association gets under way tomorrow While still rated a minor track the distance of the racing strip has been increased to six furlongs and the width has been placed on a par with any of the mile tracks A new steeplechase course has been added under the personal super ¬ vision of William DuPont Jr designer of many of the best fencing courses in the country Ten horses are permitted to start on the flat and eight in the steeplechases There is a jumping race carded daily In addition the totalisator will be seen in ac ¬ tion for the first time at a minor Maryland track The installation which includes a modern electric odds board in the infield was tested out this morning under the per ¬ sonal supervision of A McConnell McConnellRacing Racing will be supervised by well known and competent officials the list of which follows Steward representing the Mary ¬ land Racing Commission J T Wolfe stew ¬ ards E M Staylor and M C Shea placing judges Edward J Brennan and Wilmer Bnnton and John P Turner Jr racing sec ¬ retary Edward J Brennan starter Ira Gregory clerk of scales John Brennan BrennanThe The first race is scheduled to start daily at 2 oclock with the Daily Double being used on the first and second races The Charles M Waite camera will be used to determine close finishes and the starting will be done from the Charles M Waite gate also alsoDue Due to the change in the distance of the track the shortest race will be over the Bel Air course which will be started from a chute on the back stretch and will be at a distance of 180 feet more than four and a half furlongs There also is a chuls built at the head of the stretch for races at a dis ¬ tance of a mile and this will enable horses to perform around the same number of turns that mile tracks provide Moving provideMoving immediately into popularity upon its inception there is every indication that iBel Air will outdo itself during its third meeting
