F WEIDAMAN PILOTS WINNER WINNERIowa Iowa Boy Gains Confidence Through Triumph Over Recognized Jockeys at Agua Caliente on Sunday AGUA CALIENTE Mexico July 25 Another apprentice jockey came into the limelight at Agua Caliente with the running of the first event on the tenrace program Sunday when the youth Freddie Weidaman piloted Comet o Jack to victory victoryThis This marked the first time that Weida ¬ man has ever ridden a winner on a recog ¬ nized race track Although this is the third year that Weidaman has been around race tracks he never thought he was good enough a rider to go up against jockeys of the socalled big time When the AkSarBen race course which is located at Omaha opened this summer Weidaman tried his luck and although never getting a horse home in front he was always right there Pepped up by his success he came to Agua Caliente with the stable of Erb Roberts which now holds his contract contractWeidaman Weidaman is 17 years of age and can do the light weight of 100 pounds His home is in Lawton Iowa the state from which many big names in the jockey ranks have come comeCANCEL CANCEL MOUNTS MOUNTSTwo Two jockeys had to cancel their mounts during the afternoon because of injuries and illness Apprentice M Robison injured his arm in the paddock when getting up on Quakerconard in the second race and had to cancel his mounts for the rest of the day while jockey B Neal became ill just before the running of the sixth race and had to be taken off the rest of his mounts mountsThe The riding of apprentice Willie Young is beginning to astound not only Hollywood Park critics and fans but those here too Young has been riding in masterful style at Inglewood His ride on Swiss Tryst in the fifth Saturday was a classic Sunday he kept up his good work by winging home with Elmer Cox Truebuck an oldfashioned goodie in the fourth and then turned in a sizzling performance on the favored Rolodo in the sixth In the latter race Young kept his mount close to the pace and drove up on the inside of Alice Byrd and Mam Lindy in the final yards Then with hustling tactics he was a length in front at the finish
