TOUGH HOMBRE AGAIN Buoys Hopes of Milky Way Farm in int t Arlington Futurity Runs Fastest Five and OneHalf Furlongs of Current Meeting Defeats Futurity Candidates ARLINGTON HEIGHTS 111 July 25 Tough Hombre a chestnut son of Hard Tack Alice Harris increased the Milky Way Farms chances for its third Arlington Futurity victory next Saturday when he literally ran away from six other juveniles several of them Futurity eligibles in the Danville Purse at Arlington Park this after ¬ noon The Milky Way colt so little thought of early in the season that he was sent from Kentucky with the second division of the stable ran the five and onehalf furlongs in the fastest time of the meeting 104 and was eased up by Alfred Robertson as he crossed the line of finish with a lead of six lengths Dollarville from the estate of E W Duffy who died several days ago raced to second place as Liberty Kerr representing C An ¬ drade III finished third Calumet Farms Star Chance the favorite in the betting and until today considered a certain starter in Saturdays Futurity was fourth Dollar ¬ ville Liberty Kerr and Star Chance were necks apart as they completed the featured dash dashj j CLYDE TOLSON FAILS The disappointment of the race was the poor effort of E K Brysons Clyde Tolson shipped here from Delaware Park for the Futurity He trailed the others throughout Tough Hombre which was held at odds of a little more than 12 to 1 took the lead soon after the start and before going a quarter mile had a sizeable lead He increased his advantage on the turn and continued to draw away from his rivals in the run through the stretch stretchi i On the strength of todays performance the big son of JJard Tack became a definite threat in the Futurity which the Milky Way establishment won in 1936 with Case Ace and the following year with Tiger DOLLAR VD1LE SECOND SECONDDollarville Dollarville could not threaten the winner but he displayed plenty finishing ability wearing down Liberty Kerr and Star Chance for second place The latter moved into second position on the stretch turn but could not improve his position thereby dampening the hopes of his owner for a Futurity tri ¬ umph umphLiberty Liberty Kerr which ran a creditable race Is not eligible for Saturdays rich stake for twoyearolds There was a natural falling off in attend ¬ ance today following Mondays splendid turn ¬ out but the crowd was daughter of Insco handled by George Martin was making only her second start of the year but that she was geared to high speed can be seen by her fractional time for the race She went the first quarter in 23 half mile in 45 five furlongs in 57 and threequarters in 110 and it was only natural that she was tiring in the last eighth as she completed the seven furlongs in 123 123MARGIN MARGIN OF LENGTH LENGTHRifted Rifted Clouds winning margin was one length with Up the Creek beating Yale o Nine a length and a half for second place Mr Grundy was fourth The Woolford mare was in front at one time by as many as four lengths and she still had that much advan ¬ tage on her nearest rivals a furlong from the wire wireMrs Mrs D C Wilhelms Little Hig a 10 to 1 shot raced to victory over eleven other sprinting platers in the opening dash a con ¬ test at seven furlongs With Dan Militello at the reins the son of Witchmount followed Isolenes pace to the stretch turn and then took command himself Once in front he opened a long lead on his rivals and coasted across the line of finish with an advantage of three and a half lengths Valdina which was never far back of the leaders finished well enough to be second as Dark Seeker ran third a length farther back Isolene gave way badly after her display of early speed and wound up far back in the ruck ias flid the favorite Buddie Treacy which dropped lengths You Alone made all the pace but could not resist the winner in the run through the stretch and had to be content with second honors as Storcky ran third Winlette who forccd the pace to the stretch tired in the final threesixteenths and finished fourth Sickle Simon which came in for good sup ¬ port in the mutuels raced well up for about half the distance and then could not im ¬ prove her position positionThe The colors of Mrs Emil Denemark were seen in front at the end of the six furlongs third race in which Prairie Dog scored his second straight triumph Standing a sharp drive from jockey Alfred Robertson the son of Bull Dog a 9 to 1 chance in the betting wore down Epidor and Ginocchio in the run through the stretch to score by a neck as Epidor beat Ginocchio a similar margin for the place Epidor away alertly made all the pace and showed the way deep into the stretch then he weakened sufficiently for Prairie Dog to catch him in the closing stride Ginocchio turned in a game effort but was not quite equal to his assignment to the chagrin of those who made him the favorite Shadytown beat the others in the field of seven
