BREEDERS FORWARD PROTEST PROTESTCalifornia California Association Directors of Opinion 1939 Dates Should Stand Cite Climatic Conditions as One of the theChief Chief Reasons for Adhering to Old OldDate Date Arrangement LOS ANGELES Calif July 25 The board of directors of the California Breeders Asso ¬ ciation Monday afternoon passed a resolu ¬ tion of protest against the proposed alterna ¬ tion of the choicest racing dates in the Los Angeles sector as between Santa Anita and Hollywood Parks ParksThe The resolution was signed by those mem ¬ bers of the board who were present Charles E Perkins Charles S Howard Charles T Boots Edwin Janss Jr Walter Hoffman Jr and T Wilson Dibblee It follows in full fullWhereas Whereas at a meeting of the directors of the California Breeders Association held on Monday July 24 1939 it was the unanimous opinion of the directors present that the rac ¬ ing dates at Santa Anita Park and at Holly ¬ wood Park be left substantially as they have been in 1939 This opinion of the directors is based upon their conviction that on account of climatical conditions it would be impos ¬ sible to hold a successful race meeting dur ¬ ing the summer at Santa Anita and con ¬ versely that on account of climatical condi ¬ tions it would be impossible to hold a suc ¬ cessful race meeting at Hollywood Park during the winter winterLOWER LOWER STANDARDS STANDARDSi i Furthermore the directors are convinced that an attempt to divide either winter or summer racing dates between Santa Anita Park and Hollywood Park would only result in a lowering of the high standards of Cali ¬ fornia racing now established financial losses to both tracks which will be imme ¬ diately reflected in the money which the state received and last but not least great damage to the breeding industry in this state as a whole wholeAnd And it must be remembered that the agri ¬ cultural schools of the state as well as the county fairs will be most vitally affected by any change in racing conditions which lowers the present high standard and con ¬ sequently saps the money now available to them themAnd And whereas the California Breeders As ¬ sociation represents a California industry with investments in breeding farms and ranches and in live stock worth many mil ¬ lions of dollars dollarsNEED NEED MARKET MARKETAnd And whereas the industry of breeding of thoroughbred horses cannot survive with ¬ out outputAnd a profitable market for its output And whereas no such market can be found if the standard of racing as now con ¬ ducted is seriously threatened threatenedBe Be it resolved 1 That this board is in favor of leaving winter and summer racing dates in southern California substantially as they now exist 2 That it is of the utmost importance that the two vacancies now existing in the California Horse Racing Board be filled by men fully conversant with the breeding and racing of thoroughbred horses 3 That the members of the board will welcome the opportunity of appearing before Governor Olson to express their views in more detail if the governor so wishes 4 That a copy of these preambles and resolutions be sent to his honor Governor Olson to Chairman Young of the California Horse Racing Board and to the presSj
