DEAD HEAT IN SUFFOLK DOWNS MAIN OFFERING OFFERINGCamera Camera Unable to Separate Baby Sister and Shortening in Mile Beacon Hill Purse PurseBOSTON BOSTON Mass June 12 Reaching the finish in the same nod E R Bradleys Baby Sister and Shortening from the Allen T Simmons string finished in a dead heat in tLe featured Beacon Hill Purse at Suffolk Downs today Well back of the leaders at the finish Benjamin F Listers Silver Tower took show honors after making the running for the first six furlongs Long Pass was fourth fourthThe The Beacon Hill was a condition test for fillies and mares and for performers in grade C over the one mile distance and for a purse of 1200 1200With With a minimum of delay at the post it was Silver Tower which took command The Clock Tower filly went away into a lead of a couple of lengths Jumping Jill making her first start since the Fair Grounds meeting a year ago last February pressed the leader closest Baby Sister was steadied along in third place and held to a position on the in ¬ side Shortening trailed trailedAfter After a half mile Jumping Jill was through and began to retire The Bradley filly moved up to chase closest after the pacemaker Shortening began picking up speed and on the outside soon raced into third position Long Pass was under a drive in an effort to better her position Flying Silver was showing no inclination to give improved speed despite being placed to punishment Straightening out in the stretch Baby Sister had overtaken Silver Tower and inside the next sixteenth mile was clear Shortening was still holding to third place and was racing well out in the track The Simmons miss soon raced by the tiring early pace setter and set sail for the leader leaderTHRILLING THRILLING DUEL DUELBaby Baby Sister was on the inside and Shortening on the outside as they battled it out A stride or so before the finish it was still the Bradley miss that had her head in front However Shortening was not to be denied and still out near the middle of the track swept up to come to the line in the same stride as the Bradley miss The duel of the leaders had drawn them well out from the Lister colorbearer and that miss was better than two lengths in the wake of the deadheated pair at the finish finishThe The others had played little part in the running with Jumping Jill finishing last although it was a performance that should work considerable improvement in the daughter of Gallant Sir The mile was run in 138 138Another Another splendid weekday crowd was on hand and weather and track conditions left little to be desired desiredThe The opening sixfurlong dash on the card for cheaper grade platers that had not won two races this year provided plenty of ac ¬ tion before the race was over A field of twelve paraded to the post but a series of accidents reduced the field to ten before the start was effected First Lady Balko un ¬ seated her rider and fell injuring her right foreleg and was ordered scratched and no sooner had she been returned to the pad ¬ dock when Nipantuck reared in the gate struck his head against the bar directly over him and dropped dead from a gaping wound in his head The winner turned up in John Allen The White Oak Farm gelding scored by a couple of lengths over Glenbroom from the Mrs F Preece string Money wagered on Lady Balko and Nipantuck was refunded
