The latter appeared to swerve early, was placed to light pressure after three-eighths and, closing resolutely, was wearing down the winner. LUCKY TRIP, forced to race wide and well back for -a half mile, came with good speed thereafter. CHINA FACE also finished fast. HEART BREAKER saved ground. BOLO ELLA tired after showing early speed. BURGOOLETTE, away well but forced back as WOODFORD LAD blocked her soon after reaching the turn, came out in the stretch and, closing boldly under strong handling, got up in the last few strides. FIRE ENGINE, taken in hand after being placed in command, drew out when urged entering the stretch and continued well under stronger pressure, but could not withstand the winner. ACTIVE raced prominently on the outside from the start, swerved slightly in the- stretch and, finishing well when straight, barely missed heading FIRE ENGINE. WOODFORD LAD dropped back after beginning fast, then showed a brief flash of speed in the stretch, but tired in the late stages. BROWN MATE fell at the starting gate, broke slowly and raced evenly.
