I., N. Y., May 25. George D. Widener, new president of the Westchester Racing Associations fashionable Belmont Park, is arranging a gala program for Belmont Stakes Day, June 6, which is Army-Navy day at the popular Nassau County course. President Roosevelt, members of his cabinet and high officials of the military will receive special invitations to attend this patriotic program, in which all receipts . after the reduction of purses, etc., will be divided among the Army and Navy Relief Societies and the United Service Organization. It is sincerely hoped and confidently expected that the sum thus derived for War Relief will exceed 00,000. Whatever the amount, the Metropolitan Jockey Club, operators of Jamaica race trade will match it from their coffers, thougn the neighborhood Long Island course could not possibly accommodate a Belmont Day attendance. Alsab to Assure Big Turnout It has been indicated that the other New York turf associations may decide to follow Jamaicas example. Belmonts generous gesture in giving Belmont Day, traditionally one of the most liberally attended in New York racing, has been commended on all sides. The Belmont Stakes is the next objective of the sensational Alsab. This three-year-old is one of the most popular entertainers on the contemporary American racing scene and his presence would seem to assure a particularly large Belmont Day crowd. At this time, incidentally, it is expected that his rivals will include the Kentucky Derby winner, Shut Out and such as Ramillies, Star Beacon, Kings Abbey, Lochinvar and Coat of Arms. In addition to the Belmont Stakes, which is the American equivalent of the Classic Epsom Derby, the Army-Navy day card will offer a renewal of the interesting National Stallion Stakes, most important of the Belmont spring meetings juvenile specials. While as a kind of extra added attraction, it is proposed to program a handicap. The special event is to be a ,000 added race for three-year-olds and upward, entitled, "The Army-Navy Handicap." The day will be a brilliant, patriotic, occasion. In addition to the associations contribution, various other organizations connected .with the turf sport and individuals, will help swell the War Relief funds. The New York Turf Writers Association members, who have voted ,000 to War Relief, also announced that they will buy admission tickets Army-Navy day. The public may join in this occasion through the purchase of war bonds and stamps at booths provided for their sale.
