; Thistle Down All Set for Inaugural Plan Two Attractions for Saturday Program Other Headline Offerings Listed CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 25 Everything is in readiness for the opening of Thistle Downs 31-day spring meeting here Memorial Day. Many leading stables are already quartered at the beautiful Forest City plant, and L. Henderson VanZandt, assistant to racing secretary Charles Henry, announced that all stable accommodations will he occupied before the bugle sounds Saturday. Two feature attractions are down for decision on the opening-day program, and both events are expected to draw stellar fields. The Thistle Down Inaugural icap, a six-furlong sprint for horses three years old and upward, and the Hotel Cleveland Handicap, a mile and forty yards test for horses of like age, will serve as the headline offerings. J. Oliver Brown, track superintendent at the Thistle Down plant, has completed final touches on the grandstand and clubhouse buildings. The stabling area also has come in for much improvement, and-the local course presents a most pleasing sight. The racing strip proper is in excellent condition, and Brown is of the opinion that several records may fall by the wayside before the 1942 early session concludes on July 4. Tudor Arms on June 3 Following the Inaugural Day sport at Thistle Down, a pretentious handicap program will be in vogue. On Wednesday, June 3, the Tudor Arms will have its decision, while on the following Saturday the Forest City and the Hotel Hollenden Handicaps will be contested. The former is at one mile and a sixteenth, and the latter at the sprint distance of six furlongs. Both these events are Styled for three-year-olds and upward. The program on Wednesday, June 10, will be featured by the running of the Wade Park Manor Handicap, a six-furlong dash, which is exclusively for three-year-olds. The Wade Park is an annual fixture at the Cleveland track, and is expected to draw a field consisting of the best sprinters on the grounds. The Hotel Statler and the Cleveland Plain Dealer Handicaps will be run on Saturday, June 13; the Hotel Carter on Wednesday, June 17, and on Saturday, June 20, the Daily Racing Form and the Cleveland Press Handicaps will serve as the top offerings. Other of the better attractions scheduled for decision during the 31-day Thistle Down meeting are the Fenway Hall, the American Racing Record, the Cleveland News, the Alcazar, the Akron Beacon-Journal, and the Independence Day Handicaps. The monetary awards for the 194.2 Forest City feature races will amount to 0,000.
