Former Cavalrymen Sought For Mounted Coast Guard GuardDALLAS DALLAS Texas May 4 Publication in Daily Racing Form of a story emanat ¬ ing from South Central Remount Head ¬ quarters San Angelo about former caval ¬ rymen being transferred into the Mounted Coast Guard and how well the former yellow legs like their new assignment got a quick response from Coast Guard Headquarters in Dallas It recently an ¬ nounced it was accepting for enlistment a limited number of men within the draft age former cavalrymen preferred who are familiar with the care and management of horses horsesThe The men will be used In the United States Coast Guards mounted beach pa ¬ trol which Is functioning along the Gulf coast Louisiana coast Florida and the Atlantic seacoast and California and Ore ¬ gon gonAugmenting Augmenting these patrols probably will result in additional horses being acquired by Col C A Wilkinson O C South Cen ¬ tral Remount Depot for immediate deliv ¬ ery The Remount officers are inclined to favor half and threequarterbred horses although a few thoroughbreds will be used if possible A thoroughbred has lots of sense and personally I prefer them if they can be bought explained Colonel Wil ¬ kinson Not only have they sense but their stamina and courage is second to none While I am going to get some cold bloods Ill watch for some thorough ¬ breds
