Maryland Notes PIMLICO Md May 4 Trainer Johnny Forbes reported that a good looking foal an exceptional fellow had arrived at the Howard Bruce Maryland nursery The new arrival is a son of Chal ¬ lenger n Miss Careful Another arrival is bjr Aethelstan from Nazamond He also reported that Cherokee Sal is in foal to Okapi while Poneman is in foal to Pilate PilateGlen Glen Riddles band now quartered at Pimlico in care of Walter Garter comprises sons and daughters of Man o War exclu ¬ sively It is a usual condition for the Mary ¬ land establishment Three are newcomers the balance threeyearolds and upward War Relic of course is main man in the group groupThere There was no change in the condition of GeorgaBrown Jr steward representing the Maryland Racing Commission it was re ¬ ported this morning He was bedded with pneumonia several days ago agoJames James Arthur of the armed services who is stationed at Front Royal Va in the remount corps was among the weekend visitorsr He is on a furlough and spent his vacation period inspecting his horses here and renewing friendships among racing men Joe Gillen formerly stall man at Pim ¬ lico but who is now stationed at Fort Livingston La in letters to friends here reported that he and the army are getting along line He further states that one big worry that now does interfere with his sleeping is trying to fit ten horses for space originally built for six In addition to the eight horses he has here trainer Joseph W Mergler will pick up from owner Mrs Robert H Heighes Bel Air farm the twoyearolds Zuna Happy Safety Match and Eleanor B and ship the entire string to Suffolk Downs next Sunday SundayS S Steeplechase jockey Emmert Roberts was rejected for military service by his Rich ¬ mond Va draft board Roberts was re ¬ jected for a Broken collar bone and other injuries sustained through the field fieldLarry Larry Mills who recently arrived from Virginia with a draft of the Groton Stable horses reported tHat he had been turned down by the draft board for induction into the armed services The manner in which W A Egars two yearold Victory Blue and Swifty Fox have been going along in training has prompted trainer J Merryman Black to consider starting both youngsters in the Pimlico Nursery Stakes StakesTrainer Trainer Joe Serio will shfp a draft of horses owned by E K Bryson to Belmont Park for that meeting The other horses in training here wilFbe transferred to the Belair Farnr and later moved to Garden State for that meeting Trainer Knox Osborne who has four of the H P Headley horses here will leave for Belmont Park following the running of the Oaks The Headley horses now in Kentucky will be shipped from there to the Nassau County course next week weekJoe Joe Serio reported the Arrival of two foals at the Belair Farm of E K Bryson The mares Arden Lass and Knightfors dropped colts The two newcomers are by Pilate Miss Muriel Clelland of Philadelphia applied for a trainers license to the Mary ¬ land Racing Commission She is well known in show horse circles and has had considerable experience in handling horses Dabney Harrison expects to ship the 12 horses he has quartered at Laurel to Suf ¬ folk Downs following the close here Henri Mora Panama reinsman has re ¬ ceived his final induction papers
