Broke Even Whips Toolmaker By Neck Margin at Suffolk EAST BOSTON, Mass., June 25.— Broke Even carried Morris Wexlers silks to a game victory today in the featured Hub Purse at Suffolk Downs. Broke Evens success rounded out a double for the Cleveland-owned stable, the contingents Shavo having accounted for an earlier event on the well-balanced card. Smartly handled by Johnny Breen, who had the mounts on both the Wexler performers, Broke Even came to the end of the mile and a furlong headliner a neck before the favored Tool-maker, second by a length over Cactus Foot. In capturing the Hub, Broke Even shouldered 120 pounds, two less than that of the top-weighted Toolmaker, and stepped the nine furlongs over the firm strip in 1:51%. A surprisingly good crowd of 15,557 witnessed the program, conducted under ideal conditions and over a fast track.
