POMPEY CORNERS, under stout restraint while nearest the pace of SECOND LOVE, assumed command when that one faltered and was ridden out to stave off LANCERON. The latter was rated just off the leaders, moved menacingly in the early stretch, but was never able to menace the winner. GOOD MTE saved ground throughout, moved well leaving the final turn, then hung. SECOND LOVE set the pace tor about five eighths, then tired badly. Start good from stall gate. Won handily : second and third driving. PIED PIPER, off well but unable to keep up early, was not hurried for three furlongs, saved ground while rallying and drew clear to be in hand at the end. SURRENDER displaced the leader after three furlongs, was carried out entering the stretch and aheld on willingly under pressure. SGT. ABE assumed command soon after the start but raced wide while tiring in the stretch run. DIRL showed an even effort under punishment. LARKMEaD ANDY caught tired horses in the drive. HEADOVERHEEI.S was shuffled back early, came between horse on the turn, was steadied momentarily in the stretch, then drove through to be going best at the end. PARTIDO was hard ridden to stay with the leaders and tired. TYRONE rallied mildly in the late stretch! KERRY LASS, well placed early, moved menacingly on the turn and raced evenly thereafter.
