Calm Port and Cooling Spring Complete 6. M. Smith Double HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111., May 24.— Beulah M. Smiths Calm Port, after turning a powerful effort to finish second in his last outing here, came right back with another impressive performance to capture the Westwood Purse, six furlongs dash that found a field of nine fair sprinters competing here this afternoon. Calm Ports score marked the second winner on the card for the B. M. Smith stable as his Cooling Spring took down honors in the fourth race. The Joenace Stables Juke Box came again after forcing the early pace to finish two lengths in back of the winner, while the River Divide Farms Blenette was along in time to nab the show award from the tiring Even Stitch, from the Woolford Farm. The eccentric local weather continued and held the crowd down to 9,110. Over- night rains threw the track into a sea of slop and mud, but along about noon a strong wind threatened to dry out the racing strip. This was followed by a torrential downpour which again souped up the course, and when a warm sun broke through the heavens as the racing got under way, even the most calloused weather experts was left hanging over the ropes.
