Kelly Opens Schooling Class at River Downs DownsSix Six Hundred Horses Already on Hand With 200 More Expected ExpectedRIVER RIVER DOWNS California Ohio June 14 Additional interest was supplied to the host of early morning onlookers at the River Downs track this morning as starter Frank JKelly began the schooling of horses which will race during the 43day meeting which opens here Saturday The number of visitors during training hours at the Hamilton County plant which is located 10 miles east of Cincinnati on the banks of the Ohio River can be expected to in ¬ crease this week with the announcement of schooling hours according to Kelly KellyKelly Kelly who has despatched the fields at River Downs for the past three seasons is thoroughly versed in the art of handling and educating horses at the starting gate He was a jockey in his younger days then trained a large stable of horses for a num ¬ ber of years before becoming a starter He gained this title on the West Coast where he sent fields away at several major tracks before accepting the starters position with the River Downs Racing Association AssociationWith With approximately 600 head of horses on the grounds at River Downs and 200 more expected this week which will bring the stable area to capacity Kellys duties during the morning hours can be counted on to be tedious He insists that any horses who have never started under silks must be educated to perform at the gate to his satisfaction before they will be per ¬ mitted to stay Each of the twoyearolds tenanted here about 250 according to racing secretary L J Giles must be ap ¬ proved by Kelly before entry will be ac ¬ cepted
