WHERRIE, kept within striking distance of the pace under steadying restraint, responded for the drive and overhauled the leaders inside the final sixteenth, then drew clear. AGHADEE improved position along the inside, assumed command as the leaders went wide, but was unable to stave off the winners bid. JOANS ROBIN forced the pace, came through on the inside to gain a slight lead, then drifted out, carrying GOOD SWEEP wide. HUTCH rallied mildly nearing the end. GOOD SWEEP lost all chance when carried wide. ROSE. HAIRAN set the pace for seven furlongs before tiring. The others were outrun. HOWDY ROWDY WAS LAME IN THE POST PARADE AND WAS ORDERED SCRATCHED. ALL WAGERS ON HOWDY ROWDY WERE ORDERED REFUNDED. EVEN BREAK, in closest attendance of the pace after a quarter mile, was under stout pressure through the stretch and outfinished BALLADANTE. The latter opened a clear lead at once, was kept clear without urging, skirted the inner rail entering the stretch, then came out slightly, but held on gamely to the end. RAMPAGEOUS, never far off the pace, rallied under late pressure and just missed catching the top pair. GRANDPA MAX lacked a closing rally. PICKPOCKET had no mishap. PENNY REWARD was unable to keep up. TOP SCORE passed tiring horses. OCEANIA was outrun. DODOS GIRL flattened out badly in the final sixteenth. FIGURE EIGHT quit badly. Scratched— 76393 Camolino, 108. MUCHO MAS assumed command after a quarter, was under steady urging to shake off SHADOWS START entering the stretch, then drew clear. SHADOWS START was "a forward factor along the inside and continued on gamely under steady urging. JUDYS RUNNER, steadied when unable to race with the early pace, challenged mildly when set down, moved along the inside, but was not good enough. FRIEDACRES was unable to keep up. IN MY BONES showed good speed from the start, but tired in the final furlong. DOT H. raced wide. HENRY BUSSE flashed brief speed, tired and came back lame. FIRESONG engaged the leader soon after the start, raced on even terms with ATOM RIDE to the final furlong, then drew out gradually under steady pressure. ATOM RIDE, showing good speed along the inside, alternated in setting the pace, then held on gamely after giving way in the late stages. PEERLESS broke alertly, raced wide in the backstretch, was roused nearing the far turn and moved readily, then flattened out in the final stages. NICE MANNERS went evenly while saving ground. COALTOWN assumed command soon after the start, immediately drew away from the field, was under strong restraint while increasing margin and remained in hand to the end. GRAND ENTRY, under strong restraint to the final quarter, rallied under pressure and outfinished FANCY FLYER for the place. FANCY FLYER weakened in the late stages. COLUMN dropped far out of contention in the first half, rallied mildly, but was not under pressure. MISLEADER went well for six furlongs, then quit. BETTER BET JR. assumed command at once, drew clear, set a rapid pace, was kept out in the middle of the track, turned back a challenge from CHARING ROCK on the final turn, then drew out again. CHARING ROCK was in closest attendance of the pace from the start, drew nearly abreast as he moved along on the inside entering the stretch, but was not good enough. DAILY DIP came to the outside for the drive, responded to strong pressure, but was not good enough. MESMER was shuffled back soon after the start and recovered quickly, but was unable to make up appreciable ground. DOCKSTADER was unable to better position when roused.
