SPUDS improved his position steadily while racing between horses, but was not good enough. THORN showed good speed while racing on the outside, but had little left when called upon for his best effort. NEPAL broke slowly and, while racing on the inside throughout, made up some ground. IRISH WIT was never a great distance back, responded to urging rounding the stretch turn to wrest command from the outside in the early stretch and was best under a stiff drive through the stretch. GRANDMA G., racing on the outside to the stretch turn, rallied when roused for the drive to move boldly on the winner in the final furlong, but was not quite good enough. PROPHETS THUMB was well placed early, but was forced to ease up momentarily after leaving the backstretch, quickly recovered and, when finding racing room on the inside cn entering the stretch, finished full of run. ESCADOR, slow to begin, was hard held to the final quarter, where he rallied from between horses and made up ground fast. BULK-HEAD broke slowly, but was quickly rushed into a contending position and had nothing left when the real test came. BOUNCING BOOTS was in slightly close quarters on the inside early and failed to rally when clear. VELVET RHYMER raced a trifle wide. FIFTH WHEEL had good speed from the beginning, but was force to take up sharply rounding the turn and lost all chance. Scratched— 76749 Top Me, 113; 76545 Prim Pupil, 113; 765454 Country Town, 113.
