BEAR CATCHER IS IMPROVED BY BATHS. Froin San Francisco comes the report that Oar-net Ferguson has. entirely reclaimed Bearce.tchei-and that the speedy son of St. George Sallie McAllister may In? expected to give a good aecouut of himself in the racing at Oakland the coming winter. Beareatchers legs failed him last winter and his owner was of a notion that his raciug days were at an end. When he went to the summer meeting at Seattle Ferguson took Bearcatcher along. There Is a beautiful river near the Meadows course at Seattle. Along the banks of this there IS: good grazing. One morning, so the story goes,- Ferguson tent Bearcatcher and others of his horses out to nibble at the grass. He noticed a native trainer take his horse Into the river for a swim. The horse seemed to. enjoy it and when the. man had returned to the bank with the animal Ferguson remarked that the horse looked as though he liked the water. The native told him that it was of great benefit to the horses legs. From that time on Bearcatcher had a swim every morning and it is now said that his underpinning gives him no trouble at nil. -
