Nowadays Gains Easy Triumph In War Bond Invitation Purse PAWTUCKET, R. I., June 6.— Nowadays carried Joseph Tuccis silks to an easy triumph today in the featured 0,000 Nar-ragansett War Bond Invitation Purse. Five three-year-olds met in the six-furlong dash and Nowadays held a three-length advantage at the wire over Mrs. Weston W. Adams favored Kewey Dee while the latter saved place honors by two and a half lengths over A. F. Walls fast-closing I Tiger Man. r Jockey Johnny Gilbert handled the victor in faultless fashion and his heady ride was a strong factor in Nowadays triumph. Kewey Dee, who had the saddle services of Harry Pratt, was unable to menace the flying winner but he did continue stoutly enough in the drive to down Tiger Man for second. A crowd of some 18,000 New Englanders turned out for the program, which was decided under threatening weather conditions and over a constantly changing strip. The track was slow for the top attraction and Nowadays stepped the three-quarters In 1:11%. Second choice in the speculation, the Tucci gelding rewarded his backers with a .40 tote pay-off.
