Helis Denies Report That Bid On Golden Gate Was Rejected NEW YORK, N. Y., June 14. William Helis, New Orleans turfman and breeder, today denied reports from California that his bid for Golden Gate Park had been rejected. He stated that he is still negotiating with the Santa Fe Railroad, which owns the race track property near Albany, Calif. It is understood that Helis bid topped those filed by a San Francisco and Los Angeles group, who were reported to have entered into a tentative agreement with the railroad to take over and operate the track jointly. Helis would not amplify his statement, beyond saying that the Santa Fe has his offer under advisement. A short time ago, Helis and associates acquired control of i Suffolk Downs at East Boston, Mass.
