Diredawa Victorious in Manchester Cup MANCHESTER, England, June 14. Reuters Diredawa, a 7-to-l chance, today defeated the favorite Paper Weight by two lengths in the ,000 Manchester Cup, one mile and a half contest over the Castle Irwell course. Wayside Inn was beaten three lengths for the place award. Eleven horses started. A huge crowd saw the poplar northern horse Diredawa, winner of a substitute even at Pontefract last year, capture the Cup after a short sharp struggle with Paperweight and Wayside Inn. Paperweight, who carried top weight, appeared likely to win when he took the lead, but could not withstand Diredawas powerful challenge. The winner, by Flag of Truce Biutussimo, carried 128 pounds, the same Impost he had up when he triumphed in last years renewal of the stake.
