SHANNON DECLARES MEETING A CERTAINTY. Says Hot Springs Jockey Club Has Money, and Will Discharge Its Obligations. Hot Springs, Ark., January 18. "There will be twenty-one days of racing at Essex Park beginning March 15 and ending April 7, just as indicated by the alotment of dates by tbe American Turf Association at New Orleans yesterday," said William T. Shannon, vice-president of the Hot Springs Jockey Club today. "I know there has been a lot of talk about the alleged weakened financial condition of our organization, hut that is no indication that we are In need of funds. We will announce our list of stakes in a few days and along with them will "lie a statement as to the size of the purses. The offerings will be as liberal as last year and every dollar due the "horsemen will be just as promptly paid. We have the money to discharge our obligations. Where the money is or where it came from Is no affair of the publics. We intend to proceed witli our meeting regardless of racing at Oaklawn. If the public falls to patronize us mid we lose out that is our affair, lint the horsemen who race with us alul all others with whom we may have, any tiansactions will , get all that is due them in the way of money and good treatment." Eole Pearsall, the New York plunger, In cooperation with his partner, Eddie Burke, bought a big interest in the Kentucky Club and poolroom yesterday. AV. T. Shannon, who owns the larger Interest and has operated the club for the .past three years, stated that the new partners were only financially interested in the club and not In any way connected with Essex Park.
