AS TO THE ALLOTMENT OF EASTERN DATES. The new State Racing Commission lias not yet been appointed by Governor Higgins, and nobody at Albany seems to know when delinite action will be taken. .Meanwhile he Jockey Club is In no hurry to announce the racing dates for the year, although the impression was created recently that the schedule would lie forthcoming before the end of the month. Under the law, each of the racing associations in the state must receive a license from the commission before it can make use of the dates assigned to It by the Jockey Club, and as the commission is an uncertainty, it is said that the Jockey Clubs hands are for the time being completely tied. Nothing lias been heard from the Empire City tracks supposed application for a license this year, but it is generally believed that when Governor Higgins names the commission, James Butler, the chief owner of the Yonkers track, will make a formal application for not only a license, but also racing dales. The story that Empire City will ask for a meeting in August, to conflict with Saratoga, will not down, although Mr. Butler and his friends have not expressed themselves on the subject one way or another. If the commission should grant a license to Empire City, however, the Jockey Club would lie virtually compelled to make room for the Yonkers track in the schedule, a proceeding that might not be entirely agreeable to some of the leading stockholders of the big racing associations.
