A MAIDEN TO REMEMBER. Nathan Hale, a four-year-old colt by Pontine Annisette, which has been entered for the Suburban in the name of Alfred Weir, is really owned by Addison Johnson, the warden Jf Sing Sing Prison. Tliis coR started only once last season, op November 11, at Aqueduct In a six furlong dash. He was ridden by Burns and he received enough backing to lower his odds from 40 to 1 down to tens. There were thirteen starters and Nullum Hale got away from the post absolutely last, so that Burns had to take him to the outside. At that the colt ran a phenomenal race and finished third, beaten a length and a head by Pioneer and Maid of Timbuctoo respectively, both of which would have been defeated by him if the distance had been a furlong more. This performance convinced Warden Johnson and his friends that Nathan Hale might have a chance in some of the big races tills year and for that reason it was decided to put him in the Suburban, together with other stakes of lesser importance.
