WHO DRUGGED THE HOBSE THIS IS WHAT JUDGE HAMILTON WANTS TO KNOW. Veterinaries Say The Huguenot Had Stimulants McCafferty Says He Is Innocent Brooks Case Is to Be Investigated. Los Angeles, Cal., February 20. The alleged doping of The Huguenot by .T. .T. McCafferty gave rise t. lively gossip at Ascot Tark today. Dr. Young, the associations veterinary surgeon, has filed an affidavit with Judge Hamilton to the effect that to the best of his knowledge The Huguenot was tampered with and had all indications of being under the influence of some powerful stimulant at time of examination. Two other veterinaries who made examination witli Pr. Young, are of the same opinion. The examination, however, was not made until after the horse had been taken to C. E. Pumells stable. J. J. McCafferty declares his innocence of the charge made by Dnrnell that he McCafferty drugged the horse. McCafferty says that he was not at the stable for more than an hour prior to the running of the race. He claims that if the horse was drugged it was a set-iip job and Intimates that it might have been done after the race. No action was taken In the matter today. Judge Hamilton says he will give McCafferty ample opportunity to clear himself of the charge and that both sides of the case will be thoroughly gone Into. A decision will probably not be reached for several days. It was rumored that The Huguenot died today, but this is without foundation. The board of directors will take up the Brooks ease In a few days and, will probe it to the bottom.
