SENATOR CASSIDY INTRODUCES HIS BILL. Albany, N. Y., February 20. The Lansing-Cassidy bill to suppress betting on race tracks in this state was introduced in the senate last night by Senator Cassidy. It was referred to the Codes Committee and It is understood that a hearing will be fixed for next week. The bill is much more drastic than at first appeared. It makes betting on horse races a felony and provides that no sentence of imprisonment for the offense shall be for less than one year. It further provides that the court may both imprison and fine a convicted person. Senator Cassidy says the bill will have the support of "sturdy stock," and that the representatives of the foremost reform and anti-vice associations of the state will come to Albany to urge Its passage.
