EXPECTS BILL TO BE DEFEATED. "A man who was in Albany to attend the hearing on the anti-racetrack betting bill .declares that there was evidence of an overwhelming opposition to the measure, and that Indications point to its defeat." says the New York Sun. "If the bill providing for an 8 per cent. State racing tax becomes a law this man says it will be a long time before the antagonists of the turf will have even a remote chance to put an end to the sport. Furthermore, this person declares that the legislators realize that If the tracks should be closed in this State there would be racing at other tracjks. which would result in the opening of hundreds of poolrooms In this city and elsewhere "that" would otherwise remain closed. Another rumor of briliery In relation to the anti-betting bill is. in circulation, but it is regarded bv wise snorting men as a huge Joke. The. Jockey Club will stand on its merits, they say."
