MEMBERS OF THE JOCKEY CLUB. "In view of the present crusade at Albany against racetrack betting and the turf in general, including a bitter tirade against the Jockey Club, which controls the tracks operated in this State, it may be of interest to the public, whether prejudiced iu favor of or against racing, to know something nlwiiit tliis governing body in the .East," says the New York Sun. "The Jockey Club was formed on February 7. 1894, taking the place or the old Board of Control. Its organizers were James Galway, A. J. Casxatt, G. L. Knapp. John Hunter. James IS. Haggiu. William C. AVhitney. F. K. Sturgls. O. H. Payne. W. P. Thompson, James R. Keene and Perry Belmont. The original membership was limited to thirty, with John Hunter chairman and James R. Keene vice-chairman, a position the latter has held over since. Ten of these original memliers have died since, including W. C. Whitney. S. S. Brown, A. F. Walcott, J. G. K. Lawrence and G. L. Knapp. At present the membership in the club has been increased to fifty, witli a large waiting list. Last "week for the first time in a number of years the Racing Calendar published a full list of the Jockey Clubs members as follows: J. Harry Alexandre, August Belmont. O. II. P.
