TODAYS BEST. At City Park Lens, first rare. At Crescent Park Van Ness, first race. At Oaklawn Foxhall, fourth race. At Oakland Tony Faust, fourth race. Lost of the day Foxhall. Yesterday Governor Beckham signed the act of the legislature creating a racing commission for the state of Kentucky and it is now a ,i,w- T,l roason for tI,e cre:l Kentucky tion of the body that will govern Racing 1ie p0rt ln Kentucky henceforth Protected. was to prevent the invasion of the state by the destructive gambling element now seeking to rule or ruin western racing. There is now not the slightest prospect that the Ixuiisville and Latonia meetings will be paralleled and it is with the commission to say whether the costly outlay at Douglass Park shall lie n total loss, or not. As the home of the thoroughbred it is well for Kentucky that racing in tli.it state is to be eon-trolled by men who have at heart the love of a high class 6iort for its own sake. For the sordid crew with whom racing is no more that a faro table or any other gambling device, Kentnckians have no good feeling and it is a matter ot rejoicing that the state is to be kept free from their debasing Influence. The good example set by -the state of Kentucky should now be followed by the state of Tennessee.
