TIMBER WINS IN A ROMP. II. P. WHITNEYS OGDEN COLT MAKES AUSPICIOUS THREE-YEAR-OLD DEBUT. Claro Russell, Under L. Todays card at Sheepshead Bay was an all around good one, attended with ideal weather conditions and racing of the highest class was the result. The attendance was again very large, fully 15,000 persons being on hand to witness the debut in his three-year-old form of Timber, Harry Payne Whitneys special purchase for last years Futurity. The stake fixture down for decision, the Rosebuds, for two-year-old fillies over the last five furlongs of the Futurity course, was won easily by H. K. Knapps rugged Clare Russell, which demonstrated her ability to go out and take the track from the fastest of her age and sex, when adequately handled. As a matter of fact every one of the other live races held more of interest for the spectators than the juvenile fixture. J. R. Keeno sent out a genuine and widely heralded crack in Ieter Pan. He made good. Timber simply played with the renowned Roseben in the sis: and a half furlongs sprint. Knight of Ehvay scored a gallant victory in one of .the most bitterly contested steeplechases seen in many a day over the short course, the pace being a scorching one from beginning to end. Grenade was returned a ilukc winner in the mile race over a. big field of fast ones, a half dozen tunning closely bunched for over seven furlongs with the result in doubt almost to the last stride. Harry Payne Whitneys three-year-old Ally Perverse, full sister to Stalwart, worked a mile in 1:10, between races this afternoon.
