Gates and John A. Drake are the heaviest investors in Rockingham Park. There is the keenest interest manifested in racing circles as to the outcome of the experiment whis is to be tried upon a new racing community when the Salem course Is thrown open on Thursday. The fact that rio open professional betting will be allowed or attempted at the Salem track, is the ciiisc of much speculation as to whether the icople upon which the enterprise will depcud for patronage, will attend in sufficiently large numbers to place it upon a prosperous footing. The managers of the Salem course insist upon it that there will be no violation of the laws and that persons who venture to pass money will be arrested.
