SALEM STRAIGHTAWAY RACES UNPOPULAR. Salem, N. II., July 0. Commencing Monday next races over the straightaway course, at Rockingham Park, will be aliolished and all races will be run over the main track. At present all races from -1 1-2 to C furlongs are run down the chute and races of greater distances over the main course. Straightaway races did not altogether meet with popular favor, simply because it was almost impossible for the public to view the start of each race. The management was quiet to respond to the public demand for circular races and accordingly the above order was issued today. The managers are doing everything possible to please the New Englanders and it is pleasing to note that the people are responsive. There was improvement in the attendance today. A race for gentlemen riders is announced for a week from Saturday when it is expected seme of the crack riders from Boston will be seeii in the saddle. The weather was delightfully cool and the track" fairly-fast. The ranks of the local horsemen will be swelled on Monday by the arrival of a number of horses from Buffalo. James Griffin changed his mind about leaving. He will remain here until the close of the meeting. J A.
