Penarris, from a flying start, indulged the early pacemaker with the lead to the last turn, where he shot Into a long lead and was winning easily when suddenly forced to a drive to beat Basin way. The latter, also favored at the start, maintained close early pursuit of the leaders, but lost ground on the turn, then finished with a rush and ran a superior race. Waterhury, in close quarters at the start, steadily improved his position iuto an easing up third, showing surprising improvement. Toddles, away llstfootod and securely pocketed and pulling up for the major part of the journey, never had clear sailing until too late. Botanist, nearly left, closed a big gap under a bad ride. Waterspced finished well up. Adelinette. practically left, made up a lot of ground. Sam Rice finished well up. Hyperbole had no chance at the weights. Scratched 5S519Marathou. 102: C3217Belcast, 112. Angler, luckily placed and reserved in the early running, was sent iuto the lead on the far turn, coming away easily when straightened for home. Lancastrian suffered from crowding at the start and went wide on the first turn, moved up simultaneously with Angler, but could not quite head him. yet ran a cracking race. Red Friar, away badly and shut off and pocketed on the backstretch, was forced to the outside on the last turn and finished fast, but too late to get up and was second best. Miss Rillie finished well through the last quarter after holding a good position from the start and will improve. Reldpioorp was interfered with on the first turn and never got into serious contention thereafter, but ran a g-xxl race, however. R. F. Williams, shuffled to the rear on the first turn, closed up fast in the last half. Yorkshire Lad was sore and unfit to start. Earl Rogers developed superior speed for six furlougs. but failed to str. Halifax broke running and proceeded to spreadeagle his field, finished eased up and tar outclassed the others. Bat got away poorly, but gradually improved his position, is a very long striding, awkward and big horse and Koerner could not ride him to advantage, hut he was easily second best. Stoic, badly ont-laced for the first half, finished with a great rush and put up a cracking good effort. Gold Coin, .v.av slowly, was excessively urged for the first half lu an effort to overhaul the leader and that beat him out of a place. Holloway got away poorly aud had no chance. Nannie Hodge outbroke the others, but was quickly joined and passed bv Diamond, which she followed in close pursuit and eventually wore down in the stretch. Diamond displayed his usual brilliant peed made the running to the stretch, where he relinquished the lead aud then came again and finished goin as well, almost, as the winner. Hot Toddy was always an easy third and ran a good race. Is in rare form and worth watching. Lord of the Forest was outpaced from the start and finished a lucky fourth. Water Tank, away very poorly, closed up considerable ground. Sly Ben, away poorly, made up ground and finished fast. Scratched 5339G Garnish, 10S; C3542 Battleaxe, 02; 03555 Listless, 92. Far West set a stiff pace end. although readily giving way to the winner, held second place safe In remarkably game style. Dishabille, away slowly, was carried wide and knocked off his stride on the lirst turn and got into forward contention in the middle half, hut tired at the end. Bad News, shut off on the first turn, closed up steadily and finished a fast going fourth, is becoming very good aud likes tlds track. Grazlallo failed to stay, but showed his usual speed and can do better. Telephone interfered witli Dishabille and ran all over the course. Berwick, a grand looker and probably short, developed dazzling speed, but tired in the stretch and was surrounded and pulling up at the end. Victoria It., nearly left, closed a tremendous gap.
