NEW YORK AGAIN STARTS IN TWO RACES. Same as Last Saturday, Wins One and Is Second in the Other Wes Wins Boston Cup. Salem, N. H., July 14. Wes, the Inverness gelding, from the stable of John A. Drake, cantered home a winner in the Boston Cup, at one mile and a quarter, for three-year-olds, the feature race at Rockingham Park. The race was worth ,335 to the wluner and jockey Garner had the mount. Wes went to the front at the start, maintained the lead andpassed the judges a length and a half before Lotus Eater. Palette, the only other starter, had too much weight aboard and. was in distress all the way. The beautiful weather brought out a good crowd, many attracted by the second race, which was for gentlemen riders. This was the first race of its kind at Rockingham and. Judging by the enthusiasm displayed during Us running, they will prove popular. Mr. Shaw, of Boston, had the mount on California King and, under skilful handling, he brought the Solitaire II. gelding home winner by a good margin. Subtle, with Mr. Baker in the saddle, was second. Montebank, the only other starter, was ridden by Mr. Higginson, and was a poor third. New York duplicated his performance of Saturday last when he ran in two races. Today he ran second in the third race, and after a short rest came out and captured the fifth race, running the mile in 1:40. He should have .won the third race, but jockey Wiley practically threw it away. As it was he was only beaten a short" neck by Zienap. Jockey Crimmins put up a fine ride on Kumshaw. Tills horse has started here seven times, never getting anything better than third money. Abe Carson once upon a time Was noted for training Jumpers and-among the successful timber-toppers that have run in his colors were Abraham and Quebec. Mr. Garson has turned his attention again to this branch of the sport and has in his barn the four-year-old filly Mlzzen. She schooled so well oyer the jumps "at Kenilworth Park that Air. Garson is going to ship her to Saratoga, where he has enlcrcd her in some of the steeplechase events. President Miller stated today that during his last visit to New York it was arranged between trainer Welsh and himself that Jockey Miller should be sent to Rockingham Park for a rest. If, however, trainer Welsh desires to keep the boy at Brighton Beach it will be satisfactory.
