SIR IIUON WINS SEAGATE. GIVES HIS BACKERS KOBE THAN A MINUTE OF ANXIETY, HOWEVER. Heavy Rainstorm Comes After the First Race Kia-mesha Wins the Sprint Far West Is Favored hy the Mud Gossip. New York, July 17. Sir Huon, the western Derby hero, won the Seagate Stakes at Brighton Beach this afternoon in easy fashion. The distance was one mile ami an eighth and was run in fast time. Albert F., which finished second, had but recently graduated out of the maiden ranks. Despite the ease with which the big Falsetto colt scored right at the end, during the greater part of the route Troxler seemingly was hard at work on him to keep him withiu striking distance of the leaders, and for at least one minute and forty seconds of the race, a legion of backers who had wagered their limit, showed symptoms of nervous prostration. The usual big crowd was in attendance, but the heavy rainstorm left the track sloppy after the first race and marred the sport. Clements won the opening race so easily as to effectually disprove trainer Tuckers recent contention that he was a "dope" horse. Clements race today was, if anything, an improvement over his preceding start. Kianiesha was a prohibitive favorite in the sprint. Withdrawals marred this race. There was very little speculation. Dr. Howells horse was about the best backed horse and that only for show honors. Far West, being particularly well served by the muddy going, had but little trouble In disposing of .Sailor Boy and Blandy in the uulle and a sixteenth handicap. No serious opposition was developed from Von Tromp, the heavily backed favorite. August Belmonts horse Blandy, a great disappointment since the Belmont lark meeting, pulled up very lame after his race today. Trainer A. J. Goldsborough says that Flip Flap will be ready to race at Saratoga. Robert Pinkerton was actively engaged during the afternoon in running down agents for poolrooms engaged In signalling results to outside confederates. A small leak developed yesterday. One man was caught in the act of Hashing the winners of the third race and ejected from the track. An unknown man boosted Hyperion, the winner of the third race, from .1906.sh00 to ,500, the owner buying him In for an extra . Mike Clancy acquired the two-year-old Clements after his victory in the first race for ,500, Robert Tucker, his trainer, refusing to protect him over that figure.- The Albert colt was entered to be sold for ,000.
