STEEPLECHASE STEWARDS MEAN BUSINESS. One of the stewards of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association says that he and Ills associates are In deadly earnest in their purpose to enforce the rules agaiust rough riding. "Steeple-chaslng," this gentleman said to the Morning Telegraph, "is dangerous enough when jockeys are scrupulously regardful of the rights of each other. Indiscriminately rough and careless riding would make it so dangerous it could not exist. The stewards of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association are determined to severely punish all riders detected In the act of rough handling their opponents. I really believe that the first serious offense will bring about a revocation of the offenders license. And once a license Is taken away on such a count, no amount of influence will effect a reversal of the judgment of the stewards."
