BAD RIDING CAUSES UPSETS AT LAT0NIA. Preston Permits John L. Inglis to Overhaul Wee Lass in the Feature Race. Cincinnati, O., August 10. Todays card at La-tonla- was an ordinary one at best. It was fruitful of many upsets. Bad riding contributed largely to the downfall of favorites. In this particular J. Daly, Robinson and Preston were most at fault. -The latter was mostly to blame for the defeat of Wee Lass in the feature race of the afternoon. Pres- ton was continually looking back as he led through the stretch. Had he gone on about his business .the filly would have won. Joan L. Inglis, which beat her to the finish by ,a close mareln. has recovered from his sore mouth and ran a good race. Platoon was palpably short. There is little likelihood that the handicapper -will take off any weight on his showing today. Edward Corrigans crack Planute, making his appearance for the first time since his splendid victory in the Cincinnati Trophy, was considered a good, betting proposition and a likely winner In the fifth race, but Daly had the colt all over the track and he would have had to be a phenomenal youngster to land the purse. Robinsons handling of Ovelando in the same race would have shocked a novice. It moved one horseman to remark: "The next time be makes a spiel to leave off riding horses and go back to the foundry Ill cheerfully contribute to pay his railroad fare away from here." Rome Respess and his connections are reported to have won a large sum by the victory of Zln-fandel, which romped home in the opening race at four and a half furlongs. A race at this short distance at this time of year is unusual. The biggest upset of the afternoon came in the last race when Sand Bath won In decisive style. Jockey Buchanan, who rode him, scored his first winner since the granting of a ..license recently. L. A. Bonsack has shipped four horses, Including Search Me and Cotillion, to Los Angeles. They will be rested until the- opening " if the -VAseot Park meeting. .... Hughes Brothers arrived here today from Lexington with eight horses..
