She betting ring Is about a furlong from the finish and at an angle that in a close finish makes it aifficnlt to say who has won. As a consequence the bookmakers bet heavily as to the result until the numbers are displayed. The game worked by the schemers is to have one of their crowd pretty close to the finishing ling and the instant the horses pass the mark he signals the result. His confederates have .been betting and reaping a harvest. Their plan was uncovered a day or two ago and in future any betting they do will be with some of the green ones, for the regulars have passed around a general blacklist.
