CONDENSED HISTORY OF THE SARATOGA CUP. Cup races are not so frequent as they were twenty-five years ago, but they are every bit as pcpular and the meeting of two such cracks as Go Between and Sir Huts over such a long route as a mile srd three-quarters will be easily the star attraction at Saratoga this afternoon. Tbe Saratoga Cup is the oldest fixture of the kind of this country and Its decision has been marked by some tremendous contests, most memorable of which was the great race in which Springbok and Preakness ran a dead heat In time that stood as a record for two miles and a quarter for more than twenty years. Another remarkable race that drew all of New Yorks racing population to Saratoga was that in which Harry Bassett defeated Longfellow, the latter breakiug down in the race. Longfellow had beaten Kingfisher for the Cup the year previous-, despite the fact that Kingfisher covered the first mile in 1:40 flat.
